PDO Thread Lift in Manchester
PDO thread lifting is an advanced treatment designed to support and reposition selected areas of facial tissue without adding unnecessary volume. It can be particularly helpful for suitable patients concerned about early jowling, reduced jawline definition and mild to moderate lower-face laxity.
At Jaime Correia Aesthetics, every PDO thread lift begins with a detailed consultation and facial assessment. Your treatment is planned and performed by Jaime Correia, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Independent Prescriber with more than 20 years of clinical experience and over 15 years working in facial aesthetics.
PDO thread lifting is one of Jaime’s established and frequently requested treatments. Her approach focuses on careful patient selection, precise thread placement and natural-looking improvement—not pulling the face excessively or attempting to imitate a surgical facelift.
What Is a PDO Thread Lift?
PDO threads are made from polydioxanone, an absorbable material that has a long history of use in medical sutures.
During treatment, specially designed threads are placed beneath the skin along carefully planned pathways. Cog or barbed threads are designed to engage with the underlying tissue, providing mechanical support and allowing selected areas to be gently repositioned.
The treatment may help create:
Improved lower-face definition
Subtle support for early jowls
A more refined jawline
Gentle repositioning of selected facial tissue
Improved balance between the cheeks, jawline and lower face
A fresher appearance without adding excessive volume
PDO threads are gradually absorbed by the body. The treatment does not stop facial ageing, and results are temporary and vary between patients.
Why Choose Jaime Correia Aesthetics for PDO Threads?
Thread lifting requires considerably more than simply inserting threads. Successful treatment depends upon an advanced understanding of facial anatomy, tissue depth, movement, ageing patterns and the direction in which support should be created.
Jaime combines extensive clinical experience with a measured and artistic approach. She assesses the face as a whole before deciding whether threads are appropriate and where they may provide the greatest benefit.
Patient safety and natural results always take priority. If threads are unlikely to produce a worthwhile improvement, Jaime will explain this honestly and may recommend an alternative treatment—or advise that no treatment is currently necessary.
What Can PDO Cog Threads Treat?
Depending on your anatomy, skin condition and treatment goals, PDO cog threads may be considered for:
Early Jowls
Cog threads can provide selected support to tissues contributing to early jowl formation. They are generally most appropriate for mild to moderate laxity rather than heavy or advanced tissue descent.
Reduced Jawline Definition
Carefully planned threads may help create a clearer transition between the lower face and neck and improve the appearance of the jawline.
Lower-Face Laxity
PDO threads may gently reposition selected areas of the lower face, helping to create a fresher and more balanced appearance.
Cheek and Mid-Face Support
For selected patients, threads may be used to support tissue in the cheek or mid-face. The suitability of this area depends on facial structure, volume distribution and the degree of laxity present.
PDO Cogs, Lifting Threads and Rejuvenating Threads
Not every thread performs the same function.
Cog or barbed threads are designed to engage with tissue and provide mechanical support or repositioning. These are generally selected when the principal concern is facial laxity or reduced definition.
Smooth or fine threads are placed differently and are intended primarily to support skin quality rather than produce a meaningful lifting effect.
Your treatment plan will explain which type of thread is being recommended, how many may be required and what improvement can realistically be expected.
Am I Suitable for a PDO Thread Lift?
PDO thread lifting may be suitable if you:
Have mild to moderate facial or lower-face laxity
Are beginning to notice jowls or reduced jawline definition
Want subtle improvement without adding substantial volume
Understand that the result will be temporary
Have realistic expectations about what threads can achieve
Are medically suitable for the procedure
It may not be appropriate if you have very thin or severely lax skin, substantial tissue heaviness, certain medical conditions, an active skin infection, impaired healing or expectations that would require surgical correction.
A thread lift is not an alternative to surgery for every patient. If your degree of laxity is unlikely to respond adequately, Jaime will discuss this openly during your consultation.
Your PDO Thread Lift Consultation
Your consultation is an essential part of the treatment—not simply a formality.
Jaime will assess:
Your medical history and current medication
Previous aesthetic treatments
Facial anatomy and asymmetry
Skin thickness and tissue quality
The degree and direction of facial laxity
Whether volume loss is contributing to your concerns
Your expectations and desired outcome
Possible alternatives to thread lifting
Photographs may be taken for your confidential clinical record. You will also have the opportunity to discuss the expected benefits, limitations, aftercare, potential complications and total treatment price before deciding whether to proceed.
What Happens During Treatment?
The face is carefully assessed and marked to determine the planned thread pathways. The skin is cleansed thoroughly, and local anaesthetic may be used to improve comfort.
The threads are then placed beneath the skin using the technique appropriate to the selected product and treatment area. Once positioned, the tissue is carefully adjusted to create controlled support without excessive tension.
Treatment time varies according to the number of threads and areas being treated. You will receive personalised aftercare instructions and information about when to contact the clinic.
When Will I See Results?
Some mechanical support may be visible immediately after treatment, although swelling, tightness and temporary puckering can initially affect the appearance.

The result should be assessed after the tissues have settled. Improvement is intended to look subtle and balanced rather than dramatically pulled.

Results are temporary and their duration varies according to the thread used, the treatment area, tissue quality, facial movement, lifestyle and the natural ageing process. Thread lifting should not be advertised or understood as producing the same result or longevity as a surgical facelift.
Recovery and Aftercare
Swelling, bruising, tenderness and a sensation of tightness are common during the early recovery period. Temporary dimpling, puckering, asymmetry or awareness of the threads may also occur while the tissues settle.

You will be given personalised aftercare guidance. This may include temporarily modifying exercise, facial treatments, massage, exaggerated facial movements and pressure on the treated areas.

You should follow the clinic’s specific instructions rather than general aftercare advice found online, as recommendations can vary according to the threads used and the areas treated.
PDO Threads or Another Treatment?
Thread lifting is not automatically the best treatment for every person concerned about jowls or facial ageing.
PDO Threads
Most appropriate when the main concern is mild to moderate tissue laxity and gentle repositioning is required.
Dermal Fillers
May be considered when loss of structural volume or contour is contributing to the concern. Fillers add or restore volume; they do not work in the same way as lifting threads.
Sculptra®
Designed to stimulate gradual collagen production and improve selected patterns of facial volume loss. It does not create the same immediate mechanical support as cog threads.
HArmonyCa™
A hybrid injectable that combines immediate structural support with gradual collagen stimulation. Suitability depends on the area and individual anatomy.
Skin-Quality Treatments
Polynucleotides, Profhilo®, skin boosters, microneedling and chemical peels primarily address skin quality rather than repositioning facial tissue.
In some cases, a carefully staged combination plan may produce a more balanced result than relying upon one treatment alone.
PDO Thread Lift Prices
Treatment is individually planned because the number and type of threads required varies according to your anatomy, treatment area and desired outcome.

Frequently asked questions.
What does PDO mean?
PDO stands for polydioxanone, an absorbable material used in certain medical sutures and aesthetic threads.
What is the difference between PDO threads and PDO cogs?
PDO describes the thread material. Cogs are small barbs or projections incorporated into certain threads to help them engage with and support tissue. Not all PDO threads are cog threads.
Is a PDO thread lift the same as a facelift?
No. A PDO thread lift can provide subtle support for selected areas, but it cannot reproduce the degree of correction, tissue removal or longevity associated with surgical facial lifting.
Is the treatment painful?
Local anaesthetic may be used to improve comfort. Patients can still experience pressure, pulling or unusual sensations during treatment, followed by tenderness or tightness during recovery.
How much downtime should I expect?
Downtime varies. Swelling, bruising, tenderness, puckering and tightness can occur, so you should allow recovery time before an important social or professional event.
How long do PDO thread results last?
Results are temporary and vary considerably. Thread type, treatment area, tissue weight, skin quality, lifestyle and natural ageing can all affect longevity. A fixed duration cannot be guaranteed.
How many threads will I need?
This depends on your anatomy, degree of laxity, treatment area and the type of thread being used. The number will be discussed during your consultation.
Can PDO threads treat heavy jowls?
Threads are generally better suited to mild or moderate laxity. Heavier tissue or advanced jowling may not respond sufficiently, and another treatment or surgical opinion may be more appropriate.
Can threads be combined with fillers or Sculptra?
They sometimes can, but treatment order and timing are important. Any combination should be planned carefully rather than performing multiple procedures simply because they are available.
Can PDO threads be removed?
Removal may sometimes be possible, but it is not always simple or appropriate. Threads should not be promoted as an easily or completely reversible treatment.
Are PDO threads safe?
Thread lifting has recognised risks and requires appropriate training, anatomical knowledge, infection-control procedures and complication management. Your individual risks will be discussed before treatment.
Will the treatment make me look pulled?
The aim at JCA is controlled, natural-looking support. No practitioner can guarantee a particular outcome, and temporary tightness or puckering can occur during recovery.
Where is the Manchester clinic?
Treatments are available at Eric Healthcare Centre, 3 King Street, Manchester, M3 7DG.
