Microneedling Treatments in Manchester & Liverpool
Personalised Treatments for Skin Texture, Fine Lines, Uneven Tone and Overall Skin Quality
Microneedling is a versatile skin treatment designed to stimulate the skin’s natural renewal response through precisely controlled microchannels.
It may be considered for concerns including fine lines, enlarged-looking pores, uneven texture, dullness, selected superficial acne scars and visible changes associated with ageing or environmental damage.
At Jaime Correia Aesthetics, microneedling is not offered as one standard treatment for every patient. Following a detailed consultation, Jaime selects the appropriate treatment depth, areas and supporting skincare protocol according to your skin, medical history and desired outcome.
Treatment options include standard cosmetic microneedling, microneedling with Purasomes® and targeted NEWDERM™ protocols combining peptides, PDRN or polynucleotide-based ingredients and exosome-containing technology.
Treatments are performed by Jaime Correia, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Independent Prescriber with more than 20 years of NHS clinical experience and over 15 years in facial aesthetics.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling uses a professional device containing very fine, sterile needles to create controlled microchannels in the skin.
These microchannels initiate a natural wound-healing response associated with collagen remodelling and skin renewal. Over time, this may improve the appearance of skin texture, fine lines and selected types of scarring.
The treatment depth and technique are adjusted according to:
-
The area being treated
-
Skin thickness and sensitivity
-
Your principal concern
-
The presence and type of scarring
-
Skin tone and pigmentation risk
-
Previous treatments
-
The topical protocol being used
-
Your tolerance and anticipated recovery
Deeper treatment is not automatically better. The most appropriate depth is the one that balances the intended outcome with your individual skin and risk profile.
What Can Microneedling Help Improve?
Microneedling may be considered for the appearance of:
-
Fine lines
-
Uneven skin texture
-
Enlarged-looking pores
-
Dull or tired-looking skin
-
Mild crepey-looking skin
-
Selected superficial acne scars
-
Certain atrophic or indented scars
-
Uneven-looking skin tone
-
Reduced firmness
-
Sun-damaged-looking skin
-
General changes in skin quality
Results depend on the concern being treated, its severity, your skin type and the treatment course undertaken.
Microneedling cannot remove every scar, eliminate pores or guarantee completely smooth skin. Deeper or tethered acne scars may require subcision, chemical peeling, laser treatment or a combination approach.
Microneedling Treatments Available at JCA
Standard Cosmetic Microneedling
Standard cosmetic microneedling is a versatile option for patients seeking improvement in overall texture, radiance, fine lines and enlarged-looking pores.
A sterile microneedling cartridge is used to create controlled microchannels at a depth selected for your skin and treatment goals. A suitable professional glide or topical product may be used according to the device and treatment protocol.

Standard microneedling may be an appropriate starting point for patients who want a straightforward collagen-induction treatment without an enhanced exosome-containing protocol.
It may also be suitable for patients who cannot or prefer not to use products containing bovine-derived ingredients.

Microneedling With Purasomes®
Purasomes is a professional skin-quality range developed in Italy by Dermoaroma.
Its formulations contain exosomes and growth factors derived from organic bovine colostrum, combined with additional skin-supporting ingredients. Depending on the selected formulation, these may include PDRN, peptides, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants.
The selected Purasomes formulation is applied topically as part of the professional microneedling protocol. It is not injected as a dermal filler or skin booster.

Purasomes microneedling may be considered when the treatment objective includes:
-
Improving the appearance of skin texture
-
Supporting smoother-looking skin
-
Improving visible radiance
-
Addressing dry or stressed-looking skin
-
Supporting the appearance of firmness
-
Refining visible signs of skin ageing
Purasomes is not vegan because its exosome and growth-factor components are derived from bovine colostrum. This will be discussed before treatment so that you can make an informed choice.
The precise Purasomes formulation used will depend on your skin and treatment objective.

Advanced 3-in-1 Microneedling Protocols
Selected NEWDERM professional protocols combine three categories of skin-supporting ingredients:
-
Exosome-containing technology
-
PDRN or polynucleotide-based ingredients
-
Biomimetic peptides
The products are selected according to the visible concern rather than applying the same formulation to every patient.

These ingredients should not be interpreted as guaranteeing tissue regeneration, permanent skin change or the treatment of a medical skin disorder. The aim is to support an individualised cosmetic microneedling protocol and improve the appearance of the skin.

NEWDERM Age Control
For Fine Lines, Texture and Visible Signs of Skin Ageing
NEWDERM Age Control is selected for patients whose principal concerns include visible fine lines, reduced vitality, uneven texture and changes associated with skin ageing.
Combined with an appropriate microneedling protocol, it is intended to support the appearance of:
-
Smoother skin texture
-
Improved radiance
-
Softer-looking fine lines
-
Better-looking skin quality
-
A fresher and more rested complexion
It cannot stop or reverse the natural ageing process, and the amount of improvement varies between patients.

NEWDERM Bright
For Uneven-Looking Pigmentation, Dark Marks and Dull Skin
NEWDERM Bright is a targeted protocol for patients concerned about uneven-looking tone, lack of radiance and selected areas of visible pigmentation.
It may be considered for the appearance of:
-
Uneven skin tone
-
Sun-related dark marks
-
Post-blemish marks
-
Dull or tired-looking skin
-
Loss of radiance
NEWDERM Bright should not be presented as curing pigmentation disorders or permanently removing pigmentation.
Pigmentation requires careful assessment. Some types, including melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, can worsen following skin injury or inappropriate treatment. Jaime will assess your skin tone, history and pigmentation pattern before deciding whether microneedling is suitable.
Daily broad-spectrum sun protection is an essential part of managing uneven pigmentation.

NEWDERM Eye
Targeted Microneedling for the Delicate Eye Area
NEWDERM Eye is designed for carefully selected concerns affecting the skin around the eyes.
It may be considered for:
-
Fine lines around the eye area
-
Crepey-looking skin
-
Dull or tired-looking skin
-
Reduced skin firmness
-
Selected textural concerns
The skin around the eyes is thin and anatomically delicate. Treatment depth and product placement must therefore be carefully controlled.
Microneedling does not remove eye bags, reposition fat pads or correct significant eyelid laxity. It may also be unsuitable for certain types of dark circles, particularly those caused primarily by anatomy, vascular visibility, pigmentation or volume loss.
Treatment is confined to areas considered safe and appropriate following assessment. It is not performed directly on the mobile eyelid.

NEWDERM Lift
For Improved-Looking Firmness and Facial Skin Quality
NEWDERM Lift is selected where reduced firmness and general deterioration in skin quality are the principal concerns.
The treatment may help improve the appearance of:
-
Mild skin laxity
-
Crepey-looking texture
-
Reduced firmness
-
Fine lines
-
Uneven skin quality
-
Facial skin that appears tired or less resilient
Despite its name, NEWDERM Lift does not physically lift descended facial tissue or reproduce the result of a thread lift, injectable contouring treatment or surgical facelift.
The objective is an improvement in the appearance of firmness and skin quality rather than a dramatic change in facial position.

Which Microneedling Treatment Is Right for Me?

The most expensive or technologically advanced option is not automatically the most appropriate.
During your consultation, Jaime will assess:
-
Your main skin concern
-
Skin thickness and sensitivity
-
Skin tone and pigmentation risk
-
Acne and scarring history
-
Previous reactions to skincare
-
Current skincare products
-
Previous aesthetic procedures
-
Allergies and ethical product preferences
-
The amount of downtime you can accommodate
-
Your treatment expectations and budget
You may be advised to begin with standard cosmetic microneedling, select an enhanced topical protocol or consider an entirely different treatment.

Microneedling for Acne Scars
Microneedling may help improve the appearance of selected atrophic acne scars by promoting gradual collagen remodelling.
However, acne scars differ considerably. They may include:
-
Rolling scars
-
Boxcar scars
-
Ice-pick scars
-
Tethered scars
-
Post-inflammatory red or dark marks
-
Raised or hypertrophic scars
Not every scar responds equally to microneedling. Deep ice-pick scars, tethered scars and raised scars may need a different treatment or specialist assessment.
Active acne should normally be brought under appropriate control before microneedling because treating through inflamed or infected lesions can increase irritation and infection risk.
No responsible practitioner should promise complete acne-scar removal.

Microneedling for Pigmentation
Microneedling may be incorporated into a plan for selected pigmentation concerns, but it is not suitable for every patient or every type of pigmentation.
Inflammation can sometimes trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly in skin with a greater tendency to produce pigment following injury.
A careful consultation is particularly important if you have:
-
Melasma
-
A history of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
-
A darker skin tone
-
Recent sun exposure or tanning
-
Active inflammatory acne
-
Recently irritated or sensitised skin
-
A history of pigmentation worsening after procedures
Treatment may be postponed or an alternative approach recommended if the risk is considered greater than the likely benefit.

Areas That May Be Treated
Depending on suitability and the product protocol, microneedling may be used on:
-
Face
-
Cheeks
-
Forehead
-
Chin and jawline
-
Selected areas around the eyes
-
Neck
-
Décolletage
-
Selected areas of the body
-
Individual scars
-

Not every area should be treated at the same depth. Your plan will be adjusted to reflect differences in anatomy and skin thickness.
Your Microneedling Consultation
Before treatment, Jaime will review:
-
Your medical history
-
Current medication and supplements
-
Allergies
-
Pregnancy or breastfeeding status
-
Active or recurring skin conditions
-
History of cold sores
-
Previous scarring or keloid formation
-
Pigmentation history
-
Recent sun exposure
-
Recent aesthetic procedures
-
Current prescription and non-prescription skincare
-
Your desired result
Your skin will be examined, and clinical photographs may be taken with your consent as part of your confidential treatment record.
If a skin lesion, changing mole, persistent rash or possible medical skin condition is identified, you may be advised to seek assessment from your GP or a dermatologist before receiving cosmetic treatment.
Who May Not Be Suitable for Microneedling?
Microneedling may need to be postponed or avoided if you have:
-
Active acne with inflamed or infected lesions
-
An active bacterial, viral or fungal skin infection
-
An active cold sore
-
Open wounds or broken skin
-
Active eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis or rosacea flare
-
Recent significant sunburn
-
A bleeding disorder
-
Medication that substantially affects bleeding or healing
-
Poorly controlled diabetes
-
Impaired wound healing
-
Significant immune suppression
-
A history of keloid or problematic scarring
-
A known metal allergy relevant to the device
-
A suspicious or undiagnosed skin lesion
-
Recently used medication that affects skin healing
-
Recently undergone another procedure in the same area
-
Unrealistic treatment expectations
Elective microneedling is generally postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Suitability will always be determined individually.
Do not discontinue prescribed medication or prescription skincare unless advised by an appropriately qualified clinician.
What Happens During Treatment?
Your skin is cleansed and prepared before treatment. A topical anaesthetic may be considered depending on the depth, area and clinical protocol.

A professional microneedling device fitted with a new sterile, single-use cartridge is passed systematically across the selected areas. The device settings are adjusted to suit the anatomy and treatment objective.
You may feel vibration, scratching, prickling or heat. Pinpoint bleeding can occur with some treatment depths and is not necessarily required for every protocol.

Where an enhanced protocol is selected, the appropriate professional formulation is applied topically according to its intended use and manufacturer guidance.
After treatment, a suitable finishing product and sun protection may be applied. You will receive personalised aftercare before leaving the clinic.
How Long Does Treatment Take?
Appointment time depends on the size of the area and the protocol selected.

A facial microneedling appointment commonly includes:
-
Cleansing and skin preparation
-
Optional anaesthetic time
-
Microneedling treatment
-
Application of the selected topical protocol
-
Post-treatment skincare
-
Aftercare discussion
Allow sufficient time and avoid arranging treatment immediately before an important engagement.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The number and spacing of sessions depend on:
-
Your concern
-
Skin condition
-
Treatment depth
-
Scarring severity
-
Pigmentation risk
-
The protocol selected
-
Your response to treatment
-
The amount of recovery time available
A single treatment may provide a temporary fresher appearance, but concerns such as acne scarring or established textural change commonly require multiple sessions.
Your progress should be reviewed before automatically continuing with further treatment.
When will I See Results?
Redness and mild swelling immediately after treatment can temporarily make the skin appear fuller. This should not be confused with the final result.

Once the initial reaction settles, some patients notice improved radiance and smoother-looking skin. Collagen remodelling is gradual, so textural improvements may continue to develop over the following weeks and months.

Results vary and cannot be guaranteed. Maintenance treatment may be considered after reviewing your response and ongoing skincare.
Recovery and Downtime
The amount of downtime depends on the treatment depth, skin sensitivity, treatment area and topical protocol.

Expected temporary effects may include:
-
Redness
-
Warmth or a sunburn-like sensation
-
Mild swelling
-
Tenderness
-
Tight or dry-feeling skin
-
Pinpoint bleeding
-
Mild bruising
-
Flaking or rough texture
-
Temporary darkening of existing pigmentation
-
Increased sensitivity to skincare
Redness may settle quickly for some patients but remain visible for several days in others. More intensive treatment can involve longer recovery.

Do not book microneedling immediately before a wedding, holiday, photography session or another important event.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microneedling
Is microneedling the same as a dermaroller?
Both create controlled microchannels, but a professional electronic device allows the practitioner to adjust the depth and settings for different areas. JCA uses a planned clinical protocol rather than an at-home roller.

Is microneedling painful?
Patients commonly describe scratching, prickling, vibration or heat. Comfort varies according to the treatment area and depth. Topical anaesthetic may be considered where appropriate.

Does microneedling make you bleed?
Pinpoint bleeding may occur with certain treatment depths, but visible bleeding is not required for every treatment or every patient. More bleeding does not automatically mean a better result.

How long will my face remain red?
Redness may settle within a relatively short period for some patients but persist for several days in others. Treatment depth, skin sensitivity and the selected protocol all affect recovery.

Can I wear makeup after microneedling?
You will be advised when it is appropriate to apply makeup. Applying makeup too soon may irritate the skin or increase contamination risk.

Can microneedling remove acne scars?
It may improve the appearance of selected atrophic acne scars, but it cannot guarantee complete removal. Scar type and severity determine whether microneedling or another procedure is more suitable.
Can microneedling treat active acne?
Microneedling is generally not performed through active, inflamed or infected acne lesions. Active acne may need to be controlled before scar treatment begins.

Does microneedling shrink pores?
Pores cannot be permanently opened, closed or removed. Microneedling may improve the appearance of enlarged pores by refining surrounding skin texture.

Can microneedling help pigmentation?
It may form part of a treatment plan for selected uneven-pigmentation concerns. However, inflammation can worsen pigmentation in some patients, making consultation and conservative treatment essential.

What are Purasomes?
Purasomes is an Italian professional skincare range developed by Dermoaroma. Its formulations contain bovine-colostrum-derived exosomes and growth factors alongside additional skin-supporting ingredients.
Are Purasomes vegan?
No. Purasomes contains ingredients derived from bovine colostrum and is therefore unsuitable for someone seeking a vegan treatment.

Are Purasomes injected?
At JCA, the selected Purasomes formulation is used topically as part of the appropriate professional microneedling protocol. It is not injected as a filler or injectable skin booster.

What is a 3-in-1 microneedling treatment?
The term describes selected protocols that combine exosome-containing technology, PDRN or polynucleotide-based ingredients and biomimetic peptides with professional microneedling.
It does not mean three separate injectable procedures are being performed.

Which NEWDERM treatment should I choose?
You do not need to choose before attending. Jaime will assess your skin and recommend Age Control, Bright, Eye, Lift, Purasomes or standard microneedling according to your concerns and suitability.

Is NEWDERM Eye an under-eye filler?
No. It is a topical microneedling protocol for selected skin-quality concerns around the eyes. It does not replace lost volume in the way an injectable filler can.

Will NEWDERM Lift lift my jowls?
It may improve the appearance of skin firmness and texture, but it cannot physically reposition descended tissue or produce the result of a thread lift, injectable structural treatment or surgery.

How many microneedling treatments will I need?
Many concerns respond best to a course, but the appropriate number varies. Your plan will be based on your skin, concern and response rather than an automatic package.

How often can I have microneedling?
Treatment intervals depend on depth, recovery and the concern being addressed. Your skin must be allowed sufficient time to heal before another procedure.

Can microneedling be combined with chemical peels?
Potentially, but combining procedures increases the need for careful planning. The treatments may need to be separated or performed only within an established professional protocol.

Can I have microneedling before a holiday?
It is usually better to avoid treatment immediately before a sunny holiday because freshly treated skin requires careful sun protection and may be more susceptible to irritation or pigmentation changes.

Is home microneedling the same as professional treatment?
No. Home devices may differ in needle quality, depth control, sterility and technique. They also create a risk of infection, irritation, scarring or introducing unsuitable products into the skin.
